Harmony Shores Campground

Harmony Shores Campground is a privately owned campground located on Malcolm Island. The campground is just a short distance from the town of Sointula. Like most of the Malcolm Island hotels and other accommodations, this campground is owned by a family of Finnish descent. The friendly owners, Brian and Janet, are known for their knowledge of the island and its history. They are always happy to help guests with their questions or help them learn more about this unique destination.

Campsites at Harmony Shores Campground

Compared to the campgrounds you’ll find on Vancouver Island or on the mainland, Harmony Shores Campground is on the small size. But what it lacks in size, it makes up for in incredible views. The campground is full of towering trees that offer great shade for campers, especially during the summer. Through the trees, you can see the rocky shoreline — you can even camp along this shoreline, and listen to the gentle lapping of the water on the shore as you fall asleep!

Harmony Shores Campground has 3 types of campsites to choose from. Most of their sites are traditional campsites. These non-electric sites are ideal for tent campers and rent for just $35 a night (CAD). You can also reserve an oceanside campsite. These sites are also non-electric, with great views of the water. These sites rent for $35 per night (CAD) as well.

Looking for a Sointula campground that can accommodate an RV? Bere Point Campground, the island’s other popular campground, only offers sites for tent campers. But at Harmony Shores Campground, you’ll find 4 RV-friendly sites. These sites each offer electricity and are available for $40 per night (CAD). While these sites do not offer sewage hookups, there is a sani-dump available at the Sointula Harbour where RV campers can empty their tanks before boarding the ferry, or before returning for more camping fun!

Facilities at Harmony Shores Campground

The primary attraction at Harmony Shores Campground is the stunning views and easy access to the town of Sointula! But the campground also offers a few amenities to help make your stay more enjoyable.

In the shared community building, guests have access to a shared mini-fridge, a sink, and a communal freezer perfect for storing the groceries you’ve picked up from the Sointula Co-op for our stay. There is also firewood available for purchase.

Perhaps the most important amenities are the campgrounds flush toilets and showers, which offer plenty of hot water to help you get refreshed after a long day. This amenity sets Harmony Shores Campground apart from Bere Point Campground, which is a more primitive destination. Not only will your Bere Point Campsite not have electricity, but there is also no potable running water on site. This means that you’ll be using outhouses during your stay.

If you’re looking to rough it with an incredible remote camping trip, but still want access to showers and restrooms, Harmony Shores Campground is a great alternative to popular Bere Point! Plus, you can still visit the park to see the famous whale rubbing beach, without having to be camping there.

Planning Your Malcolm Island Camping Adventure

If you don’t mind sleeping in a tent or if you have an RV to bring along, a Malcolm Island camping adventure can be a great way to experience the island’s natural beauty. While you might not enjoy the same amenities and comforts of a luxury fishing lodge stay or an AirBnb rental, you will enjoy some stunning views, and create a memory you won’t soon forget!

The island has two main campgrounds to choose from; Bere Point Campground and Harmony Shores Campground. The latter offers a few more amenities, including flush toilets, hot showers, and a shared community area with access to a fridge and freezer.
