Malcolm Island Camping
Camping on Malcolm Island is a great way to get up close and personal with the incredible, pristine nature that it’s known for. There are two campgrounds on the island to choose from; Harmony Shores Campground and Bere Point Regional Campground.
Each Sointula camping option has its own unique perks. Let’s take a closer look at each campground so that you can make the right choice for yourself and your family.
Harmony Shores Campground
Harmony Shores Campground is one Malcolm Island camping option. This campground is the closest option to downtown Sointula and is the only privately owned campground on the island. It offers 3 types of campsites; standard non-electric sites, oceanside non-electric sites, and 4 RV-friendly sites that have both electric and water hookups. While these sites do not have sewer hookups, there is a sani-dump located at nearby Sointula Harbour where campers can empty their RV tanks during their stay.
Campers at Harmony Shores enjoy access to a shared community building, which features a shared mini-fridge, sink, and freezer. There are also restroom facilities with flush toilets and hot showers.
Bere Point Campground
Bere Point Campground is another option for those looking to camp on Malcolm Island. Located in Bere Point Regional Park, about 6 kilometers from Sointula, Bere Point Campsite is a more primitive experience than Harmony Shores Campground. It has 30 campsites as well as a group tent area. All sites are primitive and non-electric. While there are outhouses available, the park does not have potable running water on-site. Visitors can reserve a site online in advance. While sites can be booked without a reservation, they are based on availability and may fill up during the busier summer months.
Hotels and Resorts
If roughing it in a Malcolm Island campground isn’t for you, don’t fret; there are also hotels available on the island. They range from a luxury fishing resorts to hotels located on downtown Sointula’s waterfront.
Sointula Lodge
A visit to Sointula Lodge is about so much more than just the stay. This luxury fishing resort isn’t available for nightly rentals. Instead, guests choose from 4- and 5-day fishing or wilderness tour adventures. In addition to luxurious private accommodations, guests also enjoy daily itineraries with plenty of fishing, sightseeing, delicious meals, and unique amenities, like a hot tub beneath the stars and a traditional Finnish sauna.
With both Fishing and Wilderness Tour packages, guests enjoy an all-inclusive getaway. Your package fee covers all lodging, food, and fun, including daily excursions with an experienced guide, all fishing gear, and even fish processing so that you can take home your fresh caught fish at the end of your trip.
Oceanfront Hotel
Looking for an overnight Malcolm Island accommodation option? The Oceanfront Hotel is a great alternative. This simple hotel is located on the waterfront in downtown Sointula. Most rooms feature balconies with stunning views of the ocean — you’ll definitely want to make sure to be in your room around sunset to take in the views.

One unique Sointula accommodation option is to rent an Airbnb. The vacation rental site makes it easy to narrow your search for properties on the island with certain features, like multiple bedrooms or within walking distance of town. There are a number of AirBnbs’s on Malcolm Island, including everything from private rooms to entire houses available for rent.
Jan’s Place
Another rental property option is Jan’s Place. Location just 5 minutes from the ferry dock, this quaint home can sleep up to 5 guests. It features a full kitchen and bath with both a tub and shower, as well as a satellite TV and a lounge area. This home is available for shorter stays of 2 nights or more, with discounted rates for weekly rentals.
Bere Point Guest House
If you want to stay close to Bere Point Regional Park to frequent the whale rubbing beach or do some hiking, this next rental home is a great choice. The Bere Point Guest House is a 3-bedroom home located in a serene setting, at the end of a long private driveway. In addition to the bedrooms, guests also have access to laundry facilities, a BBQ, WiFi, cable, and a covered front deck.
The home can be rented as an entire unit, or the 2-bedroom main floor can be rented on its own. There is a minimum 2-night stay for all bookings, with discounts for weekly stays. While there is no Sointula hostel available on the island, groups looking for a great deal can split this home, which sleeps up to 8, for just $225 per night.
Dunroven Farm and Sea Cottage
The Dunroven Farm and Sea Cottage offer one self-contained 2-bedroom cottage. Each of the bedrooms has a queen-sized bed. The kitchen is fully equipped, making it easy to whip up meals for your family during your stay. There are hiking trails just a short distance away from this cottage. Guests also enjoy a complimentary plate of fresh baked goods upon arrival.
Orca Lodge
The Orca Lodge is a unique Malcolm Island accommodation. The Lodge itself is divided into 3 units; the Upper Suite of the Lodge, the Lower Suite, and a standalone room. The Lower Suite can sleep up to 5 guests, and features a large patio, private entrance, two bedrooms, and a futon in the living room. The Upper Suite can sleep up to 6 guests, with one bedroom and a loft with 3 single beds, as well as 2 double futons and a twin bed in the living room. The Stand Alone Room can sleep up to 2, and features a private deck, bathroom, mini-fridge, and coffee pot.
Each of the units requires a 2-night stay minimum for booking. In addition to lodging, the Orca Lodge also offers chartered fishing trips. It’s located just a 2-minute drive from downtown Sointula and the ferry terminal.
