Sointula Lodge

Sointula Lodge is a luxury fishing resort located on remote Malcolm Island. The Lodge was founded in 1984 by Dave and Sally Sund and was originally named Sund’s Lodge. It quickly became one of the most popular Sointula accommodation options, thanks to its incredible staff, stunning property, and luxurious amenities and itineraries.

In 2015, the Lodge was purchased by Bruce and Lisa Barlean, and in 2020, it became Sointula Lodge. Today, the Lodge can accommodate up to 18 guests at a time, with rotating 4- and 5-day trips available throughout the season, which usually runs from mid-June to early September each year.

All-Inclusive Packages

Whether you choose a 4- or 5-day visit, you’ll also get to choose between Sointula Lodge’s two all-inclusive package options.

The most popular option is their classic Fishing Trip package. With this 4- or 5-day trip package, guests enjoy daily, fully-guided fishing with licensed, experienced guides. You’ll take to the water in search of a variety of Pacific salmon, halibut, and more. While on the water, it’s not uncommon to encounter other wildlife, like whales or sea lions. At the end of your trip, the staff at Sointula Lodge will process the fish that you’ve caught, and package them frozen in insulated wax boxes for you to take home.

The second option is the Wilderness Trip packages from Sointula Lodge. This option is a great choice for those who prefer not to fish, or for those who would like to do some fishing as well as go on wildlife excursions, hikes, and other adventures. You’ll enjoy daily wilderness excursions with licensed, experienced guides, as well as the option to customize your daily adventures. Spend some time fishing, visit a private island for a picnic, swim beneath a towering granite cliff waterfall, or spend an afternoon whale watching. Your guide will work with you to plan out each day!

Luxurious Amenities and Extras

Whether you choose a fishing or wilderness package, you’ll enjoy a variety of luxurious amenities and extras during your stay. Every meal is truly a gourmet experience. Dinners are 4-course affairs, while your lunches are an extra special experience.

On one day of your trip, you’ll enjoy a visit from their “Almost” Famous Burger Boat, which visits you on the water with a hot, delicious meal so that you won’t have to miss a minute of exploring. On another, you’ll enjoy a Beach Bistro on a private remote beach, where you’ll enjoy fresh boiled crab, fine wine, and other delicacies.

Guests enjoy private accommodations in cabins on the property. Spend your downtime relaxing in the hot tub or traditional Finnish sauna, take a walk around the beautiful, wooded property and visit with their resident herd of alpacas, take to the water on a kayak or paddleboard, and more. THere’s no shortage of opportunities for relaxation or fun!

Incredible Staff

One of the things that makes this Sointula accommodation option so special is the incredible staff. Whether they’re helping you cast a line for the very first time, serving up a gourmet meal, or making sure that you get pictures of yourself in this stunning destination, they’ll be there with a smile every time! The amazing staff at Sointula Lodge is always one of the highlights that previous guests rave about after their stay.
